BONGO CONSERVATION

Back to Africa director Hamish Currie assists Bongo conservation in Kenya.

In January 2019 Hamish Currie visited Mike Prettejohn  of the Bongo Surveillance Project (http://mountainbongo.org/) to assist with saving the Eastern Mountain Bongo Tragelaphus euryceros isaaci

He met Kenya Wild Life Service  personnel and Bongo Task Force members where he received a brief on the current status quo of Bongo conservation in Kenya. A report was filed to Kenya Wild Life Service.

 

He visited a captive population of these special animals at the Mount Kenya Safai Club and met the owner Mr Humphrey Kariuki. Plans are afoot to release bongo into the Ragati forest on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Back to Africa is giving advice on the design of the facility.
